This letter report summarizes the findings of an April 7,1989 wetland assessment of
approximately 0.7 acres of property at the north end of site. This report is an addendum
to the report completed for the southern portion of the site. At the time of the earlier
1. assessment, this northern 0.7 acres was not part of the proposed development and was not
_ _ 1 evaluated for wetland resources.
METHODOLOGY
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service definition of wetlands was used to determine the
presence of wetland on the site. The definition is based on the predominance of plants
adapted for life in saturated soil conditions. The wetland edge is delineated at the zone
where the predominance of wetland vegetation is replaced by a predominance of upland
vegetation. In addition, a hand auger was used to check soils for hydric characteristics such
as presence of organic matter and indications of a high water table. Indications of wetland
hydrology such as surface ponding during the growing season, high groundwater levels and
seeps were also noted.
 4 RESULTS
The eastern portion of the site contains a well established palustrine forested
wetland. The canopy is dominated by Red Alder (Alntls Lora) and Black Cottonwood
(Pou trichocarpa) with an understory of Salmonberry (R lhus Soectabilis) and Vine
Maple (Acer -rircinatum). Ground flora consists of Wild Lily of Valley (Maianthemum
uniflorum), Bleeding Heart (Dicen ra jc(identalis), and Miterwort (Mitella ovalis). All of
