The
definition is based on the predominance of plants adapted for life
in saturated soil conditions. The wetland edge is delineated at
the zone where the predominance of wetland vegetation is replaced
by a predominance of upland vegetation. In addition, a hand auger
was used to check soils for hydric characteristics such as presence
of organic matter and indications of a high water table.
06 ' RESULTS
Investigation of the site focused on the west portion of the
property in the vicinity of North Creek. Evaluation of wetland
1 S conditions concentrated on a band varying in width from about 60
to about 100 feet east of the creek.
Through the property, North Creek flows in a fairly straight
channel that is about 8 feet wide and 1 to 2 feet deep. The
channel appears to be fairly stable and meanders slightly at the
north end of the property. This area is a level plain with an
elevation 1 to 3 feet above the water surface of North Creek.
The species composition and age structure of the vegetation
suggests that this area was cleared approximately 15 years ago.
