RESOLUTION NO. 6865 <br />A Resolution Naming the Bruskrud Road Park Parcel <br />"South Everett Forest Preserve" <br />WHEREAS, in September 2012 City Council adopted Resolution No. 6537, A <br />Resolution Establishing a Policy on Public Place Names and Name Changes, which <br />authorizes City Council to designate the names of city buildings, streets, public places, <br />facilities and natural features by resolution; <br />WHEREAS, a final master plan for the Bruskrud Road Park Parcel is anticipated to be <br />ready for City Council consideration in early July 2015, and the project's design will <br />soon thereafter be completed, and <br />WHEREAS, the park does not have a formal name; and <br />WHEREAS, prior to the completion of the master planning task, the department <br />recommends that a name be approved for this park parcel so that it can be incorporated <br />into the final master plan; and <br />WHEREAS, Mayor Stephanson received a proposal from the Parks and Recreation <br />Department to name the entire 15 -acre park parcel "South Everett Forest Park;" and <br />WHEREAS, the name "South Everett Forest Preserve" reflects the forest nature of the <br />parkland, articulates a vision that it is the city's intention to primarily preserve this <br />forested land and its ecological functions, and communicates the location of the site in <br />South Everett; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Park Commissioners reviewed this proposal on May -12, 2015, <br />and recommended approval of the proposed name; and <br />WHEREAS, on May 26, 2015, the Historical Commission held a public hearing on the <br />proposal and recommended that City Council approve the name "South Everett Forest <br />Preserve" for the 15 -acre park parcel; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: <br />1. The Everett City Council concurs with the Everett Historical Commission's <br />recommendation to rename the Bruskrud Road Park Parcel "South Everett Forest <br />Preserve"; and <br />
