Whereas, given the universally-recognized success of the CDBG program, making cuts in this
program might be an unfortunate example of"throwing the baby out with the bath water."
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE EVERETT CITY COUNCIL:
1) That it opposes the proposed$300 million cut in CDBG funding proposed by the U.S. House
Appropriations Committee and asks the Washington State Congressional Delegation and
Congressional appropriators to work for at least maintaining existing funding levels for this
program.
2) That it supports an amendment expected to be offered by U.S. Rep. Richard Durbin(D-I11.)to
restore this$300 million in funding.
3) That the Mayor and City Council submit for the record the attached list of CDBG funding
"success stories" in Everett for use by those who will work to maintain funding levels for this
program.
3) That the Council further opposes measures in federal legislation such as H.R. 2086 and S. 88
which would allow for waivers of provisions in law that target money to,or protect, low-income
people who need these CDBG dollars the most.
4) That this resolution will be shared with the National League of Cities,U.S. Conference of
Mayors,Association of Washington Cities, Snohomish County, and others who share the City of
Everett's belief that the CDBG program is vital in nature and should not be reduced as proposed.
PAS D and APPROVED this day of June, 1996.
er4111 411111ar PP,
ayor .,• • ansen Council Preskckent k Anderson
Coun ilmember D.ug Campbell CouAcilmember Rn Gipson
rf// 1G(9_,,eat, ;(2,07
Councilmemb✓ei-Thelma Jean Hansen Councilmember Bob Overstreet
Councilmember Dale Pope/ Councilmember Mark Some
