A question was raised about how
to sat curb elevations relative lo exisling condilions since the hvo slieets are different. 14th has an existing asphalt overlay
over concrete, and 131h is a concrete sireel.
After reviewing lhe slreets with our street maintenance slaff, we recommend theollowing:
14th: Proceed as per plan. New guller elevation lo match existing asphalt sur/ace. This will allow a full grind and
overlay afler the completion of the tower project and full heighl curbs.
13th: Raise curb elevat'n 1.5"l0 2.0"compared to existing. [1.5" nominal up to 2" in places if needed lo mainlain a
smooth grade.] (This wil! allow the fuWre overlay to be placed neatly up to the new curb and gutter for the best finished
appearance. This will also avoid lhe problems associaled with either trying to mill/grind lhe concrete surface or paving
over the gutlers and endirs up wilh reduced height curbs.) Asphalt cant strips along the edge of gutter will be needed
during the inlerim period un'il the finai everlay. Transitions ivill need to be provided for the curb ramps so they work during
the interim period.
Transilions at Broadway: Il may make sense to slop the new sidewalk and curb improvements just shy of the radius poinls
at Broadway since we are talking about signal improvements which vil! include signal pole placements. Ve can talk about
lhis more next week. Thanks for nll of your efforts.
Ryan
Ryan L. Soss, P.[..
City Engineer
Engineering & Public ernces
1
