12!30/20D3 :G:30
Ocscription
A257780A09
TFIE MCNAUGHTOW GROUP
PAGE 3
The Stormwater Management StrmFii(erp (StormPiiler) is a passive, Oow-through, stomiwater
iillration syslem ihal !s lnstalled (nline wllh slorm drains. The systern is comprised of one o more
vautts Ihat house rechargeable, media-fillod, filler cartridges. The StormFiiter works by passing
slorrnwalor lhrough iha rnedia-Fllled cartridges, which trap pariiculates and adsor6 materials such as
d(ssolved metals and hydrocarbons. Once fil(ered lhrough ihe media, the treated stormwater is
direcled to a coUeclion pipQ or discharged inlo ar open channel drainage way.
The SlormFilter is of(ered in four diiferent configuralions: cast-In-place, precast, linear, and catch
basin. The precast, linear, and catch basin models utilize pre-manuiactured units to ease lhe design
and installation processes. The casl-in-place unils are cuslomfzed tor larger flows and inay he either
covered or uncovered underground unils.
Purpose
Th SlormFiller is a passive, flow-lhrough, stormwater fiUration syslem designed to improve ife
quality of stormwateP runoff frottt the urban environment before it enlers receivinc wateiways. It ls
Intended to funclion as a Elest Manayement Practice (BMP) to rneet (ederal, stale, and local
requiremenls for Uealing runoff fn compliance with the Clean Waler Act.
Through independent lhird party studles, it has been demonslrated that the StormFilter Is highly
eftective for treatrnent of (irst flush (lows and tor troaL-nent of flow-paced flows during the latter arl oF
a storm. In general, the StormFiller's eificiency is highest when pollutant concenlratfons are highest.
The prirnary non-point soorce pollulants targeled for removal by the StormFilter are: sedimenls
(TSS), oil and grease, soluble metals, nutrierns, oryanics, and trash and debris.
sizing
The SlormFiller is sized io treat the peaic Oow of a water quality destyn slorrn. The peak Flow is
deferminec; irom calculalions based on ihe contribuling walershcd hydrology and from a design storm
magnitude set by the Iocal stofmwater management ayency. The particular size of a StormFiller unit
is determined by ih numner of filler carlridges (see f-igure 1) tequired to ireal this peak Ilow.
The ilow rate through each filler carlridge is adjustable, allowing control over !he amount of contact
time belween Ihe in(luent and lhe filler media. The maximum flow rale through each cartridge can be
adjustod to belweon 5 and 15 gpm using a calibrated restric(or ciisc at the tase of each filter
cartridge. Adjustments to lhe cariridge ilow rate will affect the number of cartridges requlred lo lreat
the peal< flow.
Dasic Function
The StormFiller is desfyneJ lo siphon sturmwater runoff through a filter cartridge conlaininy modia. A
variety of flter medla is available and can be customizeG for each site lo target and remove ihe
desired levels oF sediments, dissolvrd phosphorus, dissolved melais, organics, and oil and gtease.
In many c2scs, a combination o( media is recbmmended to maxlmize lho effec(iveness of the
stormwater pollutant removat.
T a00.548.q6G7 f UU0.5G1.1271 W www.stormwaterinc.com
