Replacement of 4-6" riprap to protect the lid and prevent erosion should <br />occur as necessary. <br />Underdrain Pipes <br />Clogged pipes prevent the underdrains and overflow inlets from draining runoff, <br />resulting in prolonged saturation of the soils within the rain gardens, death of plants, <br />unsightly landscaping, localized flouding, and failure of the drainage/treatment syster�i. <br />Underdrain pipe discharges should be inspected on a seasonal basis (four times per <br />year) to ensure that the pipes have not become clogged. Pipes may be flushed by <br />introducing water from a garden hose into the yard drains at each rain garden. If this <br />fails to ciear the blockage, a professional plumbing service may be called to remove the <br />blockage. <br />Catch Basins <br />On-site catchbasins �;ollecting water from the streets and c�riveways should be cleaned <br />to remove all material collected in tl�e sump. This should occur on an annual basis to <br />ensure proper interce�ption of sediirient. <br />Driveway Drsins <br />Driveway drains colle�ct runoff and direct. it to the raii � gardens for treatment. Flooding of <br />the garage may result if these become iouled with leaves, dirt, etc. Accumulation of <br />material in the drain c:ould migrate into the conveyance pipe and create clogs that <br />prevent flow and wouid be difficult to clean. <br />Regular cleaning and flushing is iequired to maintain a functioning system. The <br />Homeowner should inspect the Driveway Drain on a seasonal basis (four times per <br />year).
