a roof ladder fails to meet the Roof Hook Test,we will need to re-conduct that test on the repaired ladder
prior to certifying that ladder. (Exception: UL Listed Roof Hooks do not need to be retested.)
FIRE PUMPS
Annual service testing of fire pumps is covered under NFPA 1911. UL is prepared to provide unbiased,
third party testing when requested by a Fire Department. In order to accomplish this, UL provides a
technician and equipment to assure that all test work is conducted properly.
UL's In-Service Pump Testing Program provides on-site testing of fire pumps mounted on mobile fire
apparatus. UL has a fully equipped trailer with a 3000-gallon portable water tank and associated
equipment that provides convenient testing at your fire department or local designated facility. We are
equipped to inspect up to four pumpers in one day.
An area with a water source should be available for the inspection. UL PERSONNEL ARE NOT
AUTHORIZED TO DRIVE OR MOVE APPARATUS. A trained and qualified operator MUST be provided
to position apparatus for test.. UL staff are trained and qualified to operate the pump test. Each pump
will be out of service for approximately 2 hours while the inspection is being performed. However, should
an emergency arise, our representative can quickly discontinue test work and the unit will be available for
service.
If you prefer, testing can be conducted at your test pit or pond. In this case, an adequate supply of fresh
water from which to draft will be required. If a pond or other open body of water is used it must be clean
and sufficiently free of debris in order to avoid clogging the strainer. Underground tanks should provide a
sufficient volume of water in order to reduce the increase of water temperature during testing. They
should also be properly baffled in order to reduce the aeration of the water.
At the conclusion of testing, if the unit meets all requirements of the standard, a Certificate of Inspection
will be issued. This certificate will also provide the summarized results of all tests. If the unit does not
meet all requirements, a report outlining the test results will be issued. If a Certificate of Inspection is
desired for equipment that did not meet all requirements during testing, a retest may be required. For
example, if a pump fails to meet the Pumping Test requirements,we will need to re-conduct the tests on
the repaired pump. However, if the pump fails to meet the Vacuum Test requirements a return visit
and/or retest would not be required.
If you should have any questions or comments regarding this certification program, please do not hesitate
to contact us at 1-800-677-5227.
Very truly yours,
42,44,6r
Daniel Fox
Customer Service Professional
Customer Service Department—Northbrook, IL
Tel: 877-854-3577 X-44682
Fax: 847-574-4005
customerservice_elements_ul@us.ul.com
81
