The neighborhood has never been notified of this grant and what projects
and criteria were suitable for a grant of this size.
I am really troubled by the fact that this $8000.00 mini-grant money will go towards improvements on privately owned land.
Only a few people know about this 2 acre site that has 4, 10' by 20' plots and 1 plot 20' by 40'. There have been NO
notices or newsletters sent out regarding this endeavor.
I fail to see how this$8000.00 grant will benefit the whole neighborhood for a community garden especially since so few
people know about it. In my block alone there are only 3 residences out of 11 that do not have some kind of garden. I not
only share my pea patch with a neighbor but we have been able to donate produce to the food bank and trade organic
vegies with our neighbors.
I would dearly love to have $8000.00 in grant money from the tax payer to improve my pea patch. I easily have room for 3
more people with plots of the above size and I could gravel my parking area, add appropiate soil amendents and the
garden would be accessable 7 days of the week with no restrictions and on site water and hoses.
Sincerely,
Sharon Nelson
5012 S 3rd Ave
Everett, Wa 98203
425-258-1637
1
