%/0/7.: <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 4249 <br /> A RESOLUTION in recognition and appreciation of the State's efforts to address City of <br /> Everett and surrounding area transportation problems by approving funding to extend High <br /> Occupancy Vehicle lanes into and from South Everett on Interstate 5, address two HOV lane <br /> extension projects on Interstate 405, and set aside money for other transportation projects <br /> within the City of Everett. <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett is experiencing growth in its population and in its job base <br /> and already serves as the largest city and job base of rapidly-growing Snohomish County; and <br /> WHEREAS, in recognition of the transportation problems that such growth brings with it, the <br /> City made extension of High Occupancy Vehicle lanes into Everett and in surrounding areas a <br /> top priority during the 1996 session of the Washington State Legislature; and <br /> WHEREAS, a broad coalition of groups and organizations supported this effort, including <br /> Snohomish County, the Everett Area Chamber, the Snohomish County Committee for <br /> Improved Transportation (SCCIT), the Port of Everett, Community Transit, Everett Transit, <br /> The Boeing Co., the Fluke Corp., ForEverett, the Everett Council of Neighborhoods, the <br /> Washington State Transportation Commission, other cities within Snohomish County, and all <br /> 18 state legislators whose districts are wholly or partly within Snohomish County; and <br /> WHEREAS, all 18 legislators whose districts are wholly or partly within Snohomish County <br /> went on written record requesting funding for these HOV lane projects; and <br /> WHEREAS, the distinguished chairs of the Transportation Committees in the State House of <br /> Representatives and State Senate responded by crafting a 1996 Supplemental State <br /> Transportation Budget which funds HOV lane projects on Interstates 5 and 405, along with <br /> some inner-city transportation improvements which are of great importance to the City of <br /> Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, the funding for these projects is within the Supplemental Transportation Budget <br /> bill, Engrossed Substitute House Bill 2343, which is expected to be signed by the Honorable <br /> Governor Mike Lowry on Saturday, March 30. <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF EVERETT that city leaders and officials express their appreciation to all of the <br /> organizations and agencies which worked so diligently to help obtain this funding and <br /> particularly express their gratitude to area state legislators and legislative committee chairs <br /> who ensured the funding was in the budget. <br /> Councilperson Introducing olution <br /> FORMS:!CCAMSTR(03/20/96 1:07 PM) <br />
