Because the price of fuel per gallon dropped from $4.26 in June of 2008 to $2.78 in June of 2009, the <br /> per-mile rate was reduced from $2.30 to $2.10, effective August 1, 2009. <br /> The City received a petition from taxicab drivers requesting that City Council adjust the tiered rate schedule <br /> and restore the per-mile rate to $2.30. The drivers cited higher cost-of-living as the basis for this request. <br /> In addition, current City Clerk practices require that a two-inch square photograph be submitted with all for- <br /> hire driver's license applications. The existing Ordinance calls for a one-inch squared photograph. <br /> In summary, the proposed amendments: <br /> • Eliminate the tiered rate schedule and restores the per mile rate to a flat $2.30; <br /> • Change the method of establishing rate changes from Ordinance to Resolution; and <br /> • Change the size requirement for photographs submitted with for-hire driver's license applications to <br /> be consistent with the City Clerk's current practices. <br /> RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): <br /> Adopt an Ordinance relating to the regulation of For-Hire Vehicles, Amending Ordinance No. 2297-98 as <br /> amended (EMC 5.68.290). <br /> 101 <br />
