EUERET <br /> Resolution No. 4043 <br /> A Resolution regarding the City of Everett's commitment to recreational facilities <br /> improvements. <br /> WHEREAS, The City of Everett is authorized pursuant to chapter 35.21 RCW, chapter <br /> 67.20 RCW and other provisions of state law to provide funds for the construction of and <br /> improvements to recreational facilities located within City limits; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City has determined that recreational facilities provide numerous benefits <br /> to the City and its residents, such as the promotion of health, a sense of community, and <br /> educational and social opportunities for younger residents with a potential corresponding <br /> reduction in crime; and <br /> WHEREAS, baseball is a particularly popular sport in the City of Everett, in part because <br /> of the presence of a minor league baseball team in the City; and <br /> WHEREAS, in the 1994 session of the Washington State Legislature, a bill was passed <br /> authorizing Snohomish County to impose an additional 2% countywide hotel/motel tax; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Council on Wednesday, August 24, 1994, voted to <br /> commit up to one-third of the available funds from the new hotel/motel tax to improve a <br /> baseball stadium in the City of Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, City of Everett hotels and motels comprised 29.4% of all 1993 hotel/motel <br /> tax receipts in Snohomish County, which means that approximately 90% of the <br /> hotel/motel tax revenues committed by the Snohomish County Council for baseball <br /> stadium improvements will be collected from within the City of Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Council is considering the issuance of bonded debt, <br /> which will include funding for baseball stadium improvements; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Council has requested that the City of Everett <br /> confirm its financial commitment to the baseball stadium improvements; and <br /> WHEREAS, proposed baseball stadium improvements will be made to a facility located in <br /> the City of Everett, owned by the Everett School District and used primarily by the high <br /> school baseball team, other students, and members of the public; and <br />
