po. <br /> '4. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 24957 EVERETT <br /> A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN EVERETT .. <br /> This resolution is an expression of support for the development of higher education facilities at <br /> Everett, either a co-located branch campus or a four-year college. <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett is the largest city in Snohomish County, and desires to provide <br /> higher education facilities for its citizens, the citizens of Snohomish County and the <br /> surrounding environs; and <br /> WHEREAS, Snohomish County is the largest county in the State of Washington without any <br /> higher education facilities beyond the community college level; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Everett and the Everett Chamber of Commerce are committed to <br /> pursue the development of higher education capabilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, demographic studies have not fully accounted for the needs of Everett and <br /> Snohomish County in estimating demand for higher education facilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board (HECB) is the <br /> appropriate board to review demographic information related to the location of higher <br /> education facilities in Washington State; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the properties along Everett's river front would <br /> provide an excellent location for higher education facilities should the demographic studies <br /> confirm the need for such in the Everett area; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> EVERETT that the City Council considers the development of higher education facilities a <br /> critical need for the future health and well being of Everett, Snohomish County, and the <br /> surrounding region. The City Council prescribes the following: <br /> 1. That the sum of $5,000 is hereby appropriated from the Council Contingency Fund for <br /> the development of appropriate demographic studies necessary and appropriate to <br /> determine the need for higher education facilities to be located in the City of Everett. <br /> These funds will be provided to the Everett Chamber of Commerce to be used in <br /> conjunction with other funds acquired by the Chamber from the public and private <br /> sectors to pay for the studies. <br /> 2. The Council recognizes that the HECB is the appropriate entity to make decisions <br /> regarding location of higher education facilities.
