Based on lhe TI plans lor ihe building ihat you supplied our oflice, ihe
proposed new 3'-0"man door will be Iccaled in Iho approximale center ol the North 64'-0"long exlerior CMU
wall of ihe building (Grid Line F) on the original structural drawings).
The exisling wall is a lully grouted 8-inch thick CMU wall reinlorced with q5 verlical bars a132-iches on cenler
and N5 hor',zontal bars at 48-inches on center. The addition ol Ihe man-door will not significanlly alfecl ihe
shear walls a 'he revised calculated unit shear on ihe wall line is still below the allowable shear siress, and
Ihere is no calculated residual uplift lorce on Ihe iwo panels.
Due to Ihe vertical bars being spaced at 32-inches on cenler, no more ihan Iwo vertical bars will be cul with lhe
addition ol the man-door. Calculations show Ihe adjacent verlical bars will have enough capacily to resolve the
additional out-ol-plane lorce trom the iribulary area over ihe door where Ihe verlical bars have baen cut and no
longer exlend irom ihe foundation to ihe roo(diaphragm.
The vertical loading on ihe wall is minimal as Ihe roo(Iraming for tho existing slructure runs parallel wilh Ihe
Norih exterior wall. The proposed location of the man-door is away from ihe only conceniraled load (irom ihe
joisl girder along Grid Line{3)), on the wall, and due to Ihe arching nature ol CMU only a small portion ol Ihe
wall directty over Ihe new cpening will need lo be supported vertically. In order to support ihe CMU wall directly
above Ihe new door, and facilitale the altachment ol ihe new door trame to the sirucWre, Ihe opening should be
wrapped with angle iron ihat is welded togelher and attached to ihe sides oi ihe opening per the attached
details. ,, I
If you have any furiher queslions please conlact our ollice. V 4 z > >
Thank you, 1JQ✓I .
