SHCiiELINE STABILIZATION PND FLOOD PROTECTION
INTRODUCTION
Flood protection and streamxay modificationa are thaee activitiea
ocaurring xithin the etreamxay and wetland areaa which are deaigned
to reduce overbank floM of high aatera and stabilize eroding stream-
banka. Reductian of flood damage, bank atabilization to reduce
sedimentation and protection of property from eroaion are normally
achieved through waterahed and flood plain management and by
structural works. Such meaeures are often complementary to one
another and several meaauree together may be neceaeary to aehieve
the desired end. Unleae carefully deaigned and located, atructural
measurea can hava a potentially adveree impact on the overall
hydraulic operation oT the atreamway corridor.
POLICIES
1. Locate, design and conatruct riprapping and other bank etabilizatior
or flood protection meaaurea ao aa to avoid channelization, pro-
tect adjacent property from adverae etfecta and to protect the
natural character of the etreamway,
2. Place all flood protection meaaurea euch aa dikea and leveee
landxard of tha principal atreamxay, including aaaociated
awampe and marahes directly interrelated and interdependent with
the eLream proper.
3.
