ATTACHMENT 2
CASPER CREEK MDNS (SEPA N92-89)
MONITORING ELEMENT OF THE WETLAND MITIGATION PLAN
The tollowing provides a suqpested framework for monitorinp of the Casper Cresk
wetlands.
A commonly ovarlxked component of a restoration project is monitorinp, which
providea invaluable feedbsdc on:
1) Compliance of the restoratlon plan with tha stated roatoration yoals;
2) Croatlon of habitat values fhat aro equivalent to those lost dunnp
conatructlon or thoae that wero oncs prosent in the Pelustrins, suub/shrub
wstlands;
3) Major probtema in the restoratlon proqram at can be correctsd with revised
plantiny, and waterinp or bufferiny measuros; and
4) Ways in which ths rostoradon desiqn and tachniquea can be modified to
improvo auxes. This typ of intortnabon will aid in the planniny and dssiqn
oi other roatoradon efforts.
Without data on ths four aroea liatsd abovs, thero is no way to evaluete the success of
the reatorarion within the Caaper Croek Palustrine ecrub/shrub wetlenda. To detertnine
if complianu has occurtnd with the stated pwla of the restoration, it ia neaasary to
develop a hypothsis and pMortnance afteria. The hypothesis estabiishes a senes of
well defined statemenb, bted on the observation of other Palustnns saub/shrub
wetland ecasyetema in the area, fhat aaeert wht type of environmental conditions will
occur in the roetoration ana within a certain pariod of time.
