These units reduce the frequency of <br /> garbage pick up which increases employee efficiency and reduces fuel consumption and vehicle emissions. <br /> They will be added to the nine compactors already in service at park locations. Staff have identified Big Belly <br /> Solar as the sole provider of solar-powered compactors and the patent holder for the associated technology. <br /> Parks has received funding from the 2009 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act(ARRA)for$137,900 <br /> of this purchase.The remainder will be paid from Parks 2010 budget. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Adopt resolution waiving public bidding requirements and approve sole source purchase of solar powered <br /> trash compactors from Big Belly Solar in the amount of$145,137.74,including Washington State sales tax. <br /> 5 <br />
