Targeted Competitive Grants
2010 Renew Washington Grant Application
5. How Will the library continue the proposed program after the end of the glrattt
period? (No more than'/:page)
•
This question is worth 5-points. Consider the following items in responding to
question 5: -
• Will this project be sustained?
• If the project should not or cannot be sustained, explain. If certain
components of the project are not sustainable, can they be adapted to
benefit the library in a different manner? It is unlikely that the hiring of sub-contractors at the level proposed here could be sustained by the libtarji at
the end of the grant period. However, it is hoped that the current economic crisis will have lessened by that
time.Assuming that does happen, the partnership we are forming with WorkSource should allow us to
continue to provide a higher level of ongoing job support that is greater than what we can provide on(Air
own.
•
During the grant period we will assess the success of the evening and weekend workshops, arid use this
data to make decisions about what classes to continue and when to hold them, allowing us to use existing
staff for the best result for our public.
Everett Public Library has demonstrated its ability to continue projects funded with LSTA money beyond the
initial grant period. The wireless laptop lab we use for computer instruction was initially funded by LSTA
money. We have purchased new laptops to replace the original grant-funded computers, and continue to
provide approximately 36classes per year(4 classes per month, except for months when attendance is
traditionally(ow). Our current Northwest History Digital Collections were initially funded with an LSTA grant to
put our Everett Massacre materials online. That first collection has grown to fourteen, and has been
supplemented with podcasts. We also received a diversity grant to begin our world language collections and
to translate our policies into other languages. We continue to purchase materials in Spanish, Russian, and
Vietnamese every year, and in December we revised our policy handouts in these languages as well.We
would bring this same commitment to continuing to provide enhanced employment resources after the
funding cycle ends.
r -
58
7 of 13
