STRUCTURAL DESIGN
Industrial Faeilit3•
1. Project Description
M Izo fa-oo q
WA12.S11
Page I
The addition of another enclosed space within the existing facility at'fcct Aerospace
requires separate air conditioning. The new I IVAC unit will be placed on the roof.
These calculations check the adequacy of the existing roof framing to support the
additional weight of the IIVAC.
2. Basis of Design
'file existing facility has roof framing system known as "Berkley' with 4x8 plywood
panels with 2x4 joists supported by wood purlins at 8 feet spacing. In our case, the 4x14
purlins span 24 feet and arc in turn supported by glue -laminated beams spaced at 24 feet.
These glut -laminated beams are supported by glue -laminated girders spaced at 48 feet.
This system was very popular in the seventies, therefore these calculations use the
allowable stresses that were permissible at that time.
S.
