APPENDIX A
W-6984
Field Exploration
The field exploration program conducted for this study consisted of excavating twelve
test pits. The approximate exploration locations were obtained in the field by pacing
from site features shown on a site plan provided by the client. Elevations of the
explorations can be estimated by interpolation between contour lines indicated .)n the
site plan. The locations shown of the Site and Exploration Plan should be considered
accurate only to the degree implied by the method used.
Test Pit Excavations
Twelve test pits were excavated on 21 June 1990 with a rubber-tired backhoe op '.rated
by a local excavation contractor. Each test pit was continuously logged and obs .rved
by one of our exper,e-iced engineering geologists. In-situ strength and quality ati -ibutes
of materials encountered in the test pits were estimated by our field observer bast d on
experience with similar soils and on the difficulty incurred during excavation. Dista rbed,-
but representative, samples of the soils in tl-e test pits were retrieved, classified in he
field, and transported in plastic containers to our laboratory for further evaluation a id
classification. The test pit logs presented in this apoendix are based on inspection of the
soil samples and on the field logs.
