WASHINGTON 9E3104
12061 622-5235
April 1, 1974
Newland Construction CO. , Inc.
P.O. Box 958
Everett, Washington 98201
Attention of Mr. Peter Newland
Subject: Kohkoku U.S.A. Vinyl Plant
Gentlemen:
We understand that a question has been raised relative to the
design live load of the second and third floors of the subject
building.
The building was designed in accordance with the Uniform Build-
ing Code and in our opinion the function of the building would
be designated light manufacturing. Section 2304 of the U.B.C.
requires that , "The uniform loads set forth in Table No. 23-A
shall be taken as the minimum live loads in pounds per square
foot of horizontal projection to be used in the design of
buildings for the occupancies listed, and loads at least equal
shall be assumed for uses not listed in this section, but which
create or accommodate similar loadings . " The floor loadings in
this building are developed by palletized raw products that are
systematically stored and produce a live load of 106 PSF (under 1
the pallets) . For design purposes, this was rounded to 110 PSF
and in accoruance with Section 2309 of the U.B.C. it is a re-
quirement of the drawings that the live load be posted and it
then becomes the responsibility or the occupant to keep the
actual load below the allowable limits .
The procedure listed above is standard for the design of in-
dustrial buildings and was carefully reviewed with the proposed
tenant to be sure that these allowable loadings would not be
exceeded.
Please call us if you have any questions or desire any additional
information.
Very truly yours ,
lIARV• DODD A6 S E ,
H Vey R. .E.
IiRD/pr
