16
Accident Hazards
With no identifiable location of traffic hazards in pile
area, accidents would increase in rough proportion to
total vehicle -miles travelled through the area. Increased
congestion potential can also increase accident potential.
This project will incorporate three measures mitigating
the normal tendency of increased volumes to increase acci-
dents: (1) Measures listed above to improve traffic flow
j
and turning movements on Casino and Hardeson
J
Roads
(2) Dedication of the internal road to bypass the
critical intersection where congestion is most
likely to occur and
I
(3) Construction of pedestrian walkways adjacent
u
to Casino Road, separated from traffic. Ulti-
mately, the completed interim improvements
for pedestrians, including signals, may in-
crease the pedestrian and cyclist accessibility
of shops, parks and schools in the area, re-
ducing auto use somewhat.
14. Public Services
Fire Protection
u
The site lies approximately one mile south and west of
Fire Station #5 at Madison and Beverly, with two pumpers
I
and an aid car available. The project itself will be
constructed to the latest fire -safety standards, including
hydrants installed within 200 feet of all buildings. The
increase in population will increase the statistical Like-
lihood of fire and aid calls.
L_
