July 15, 1982 <br />,I <br />CITY OF <br />everett <br />Mr. Jack Berg CITY N.,E • 259 ATAS <br />10508 - 40th Southeast EVERETT.WASIIINOTON <br />9e2NI <br />Everett, Washington 98204 <br />INSPECTION DEPARTMENT <br />SUBJECT: 341 - 91st Place Southeast ✓ <br />Jack Carton Residence <br />Dear Mr. Berg: <br />As per your request I was present when you removed the fireplace facing <br />and hearth slab on the fireplace at the above referenced address. <br />The following was noted at that time: <br />OBSERVATION: A one inch separation between the wood framing and <br />masonry had not been maintained. <br />COMMENT: Sec. 3707(h) Uniform Building Cade, 1979 Edition. <br />Clearance to Combustible Material. Combustible <br />material shall not be placed within 1 inch of fire- <br />place, smoke chamber or chimney walls. <br />OBSERVATION: The masonry hearth and facing brick were supported <br />on a wood floor. <br />COMMENT: Sec, 3707(k) Uniform Building Code, 1979 Edition. <br />Hearth. Masonry fireplaces shall be provided with <br />a brick, concrete, stone or other approved noncom- <br />bustible hearth slab. This slab shall be not less <br />than 4 inches thick and supported by noncombustible <br />materials or reinforced to carry its own weight and <br />all imposed loads. Combustible forms and centering <br />shall be removed. <br />
