17 <br />,Policy 2.3.2. . Encourage the establishment and expansion of industrial uses that <br />strengthen and diversify the local economy. <br />Policy 2.3,3 Strongly encourage careful.siting and design of uses within industrial <br />zones and adopt standards to minimize impacts on more sensitive land uses in adjoining <br />areas. <br />Policy 2.3.4 Identify on the Land Use Map appropriate areas in which to apply the <br />following industrial land use designations: <br />(a) lYeayy Manufacturing: Areas where heavy. manufacturing or industrial uses are <br />established and are expected to continue, including the Boeing aircraft assembly plant, <br />and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad Delta yard. <br />(c) Light Industry. Areas where a wide variety of industrial, heavy commercial and <br />business park activities may occur that do not have the potential impacts of heavy <br />manufacturing. <br />(d) Office and Industrial Park. Areas where a high quality, campus style of office and <br />industrial park development can.occur on large parcels of land. <br />Policy 2.3.5 Promote increased ridership and frequency of service for public transit <br />serving industrial areas, and locate transit routes and stops in a manner that encourages <br />employees to use public transit. <br />Policy 2.3.6 All industrial developments should be designed and developed to <br />promote easy access for employees, and the physically disabled using public transit. <br />Policy 2.3.7 All industrial developments should be operated so as. to minimize <br />impacts on surrounding land uses, especially less intensive residential land uses. <br />Policy 2.3.8 Limit the nonindustrial use of industrial lands to uses that are of a type, <br />size and number so as to be complementary to industrial. activities, and that do not <br />deplete the supply of industrial land, and do not create potential land use conflicts with <br />industrial activities. <br />Policy 2.3.9 Protect industrial lands from encroachment by other land uses that <br />would reduce the economic viability of industrial lands. <br />k. C. , pg 37, Land Use <br />Policy 2.11.3 Southwest Everett: Southwest Everett contains one of the largest <br />inventories of undeveloped industrial land served by utility and transportation <br />infrastructure in the Puget Sound. This industrial area is home to industries that <br />employed almost 28, 000 workers in 2000.
