Linear Parks/Greenways <br />Example - Grand Avenue Park, Cascade View Park <br />Description: <br />Linear parks and greenways are built connections or natural <br />corridors that link parks together. Typically, the linear park is <br />developed for one or more modes of recreational travel such <br />as walking, jogging, biking, and in-line skating, hiking, and <br />horseback riding. Linear Parks may include active play areas. <br />The Strategic Plan identifies a goal of establishing 1 acre for <br />every 1,000 of population. <br />Typical Linear and Greenway users: <br />® Visit from throughout the City of Everett. <br />® Commuters or recreational users. <br />w • Children looking for alternative routes to schools <br />® Visits or more transitional through the space. <br />Site Selection: <br />® Site size depends on geographical area, but should be <br />sufficient to accommodate the development of a trail, <br />reduce impacts on critical areas, neighbors and benefit <br />from the site's unique features or amenities. <br />® Access to the site should be provided via a residential <br />street, collector or arterial street. <br />Provide: <br />® Unique experience unifying neighborhoods <br />• Benches every 300 feet <br />® Directional and informational signage <br />® Trail Head Identification signage <br />• Walking distance markers <br />Consider: <br />® Tot and youth playground equipment <br />® Looped pathway system <br />Picnic shelters <br />Avoid: <br />Interpretive signage or facilities <br />Natural area or green space <br />Off-street parking for trailhead. <br />Areas with limited access by transit <br />Locations next to railroad tracks <br />Areas with low visibility or poor access <br />31 <br />I <br />
