Ages 8-11
Devany Robinett
Devany is an 8-year-old second grader at Whittier Elementary. She is very
active in her school. In fact, she set a goal to read enough books to earn
130 advanced reading points and as a result, her picture was displayed in
the school library.
She also likes helping her community. Devany grew her hair long enough
to donate her pony tails to Locks of Love, a donation which will be helpful
to disadvantaged children who suffer from medical conditions that cause
hair loss. Now, she's growing her hair again to make another donation
later this summer.
Last summer, when Devany learned that the Susan G. Koman 3 Day walk's
route would go right past her house, she created a cheer station in her
front yard including a bushel of freshly cut lavender blooms and a
homemade poster that said "Fresh Soothing Lavender, Take Some!" She
stood for hours cheering on hundreds of participants as they walked past.
Devany also understands the importance of staying active. In fact, she is a
hula-hoop master, giving hula hoop shows to anyone who will watch. She
also placed 58th in the one-mile run in the 2009 YMCA Yankee Doodle Dash
with a time of 12 minutes 9 seconds.
Devany has a true appreciation for life right here in her hometown of
Everett.
Delihla Delany
Delihla Delany is a 10-year-old fourth grader at Hawthorne Elementary.
She is an intelligent, caring, spunky girl.
