12 <br />CITY OF EVERETT, WASHINGTON <br />EVERETT POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program <br />(CFDS# 16.738) <br />2010 Local Grant Application <br />Section 4 - Abstract <br />ABSTRACT <br />The current goal of the Everett Police Department's Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance <br />grant program is to significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of police patrol, first - <br />responders, detectives, special unit and police training unit staff. In order to accomplish this <br />goal, the department proposes to purchase: additional equipment for the recently acquired <br />firearms training simulator, Simunition rounds, rifle conversion kits and safety helmets, <br />additional data storage space and network upgrades to store, maintain and process forensic <br />digital evidence, replacement of the existing criminal intelligence data storage server, and the <br />purchase of cost efficient LED flashlights for department officers. <br />Since all proposed projects involve equipment and/or installation costs the implementation of <br />the components, described in the program and budget narrative, constitute the deliverables. All <br />firearms training simulator equipment, Simunition based equipment and flashlight purchases <br />will enhance officer safety while increasing patrol and specialty unit efficiency and <br />effectiveness. The Forensic and Special Investigations technology acquisitions and upgrades will <br />increase the unit's capabilities and its efficiency and effectiveness. <br />Purchase, acquisition, installation and implementation of all funded projects will be managed <br />and coordinated by the police department's Budget and Finance division with the assistance of <br />the department's Training Division. <br />109 <br />
