,:The Criminal Justice Program budgets $120,000 each year for the replacement of Mobile Data 1,
Ef Computers(MDC's), which are laptop computers mounted in all police vehicles. The budget (5_-
1.1 assumes that 25%of the 141 MDC's currently deployed need replacement each year. Actual is
'z1 replacement expenses over the last fiveyears have onlybeen 61 568 in total. The existing, P P $ t
g,.h MDC's(Panasonic CF-73 laptops) are no longer available and they have all reached their"end of
fig life"period. In 2009, MDC purchases were put on hold while the department evaluated a `4
replacement computer and the benefits of removable laptops versus fixed computer systems. A
In July of 2011,the department will transition to an entirely new CAD/RMS system (New World) ...a
, and automated field reporting program. All existing MDC's that are still functioning at that time
will need replacement as the current MDC's do not possess the minimum system operating Rt
r requirements to support this upgrade. After much study, the Police Department has determined
its',that the removable laptops provide the most functionality and versatility for officers and is ready
.k to begin replacing and upgrading the existing legacy MDC's. ,
