Public Works recommends replacing approximately 9,100 feet of existing 6-inch and 8-inch cast iron pipe. Records indicate the existing water mains within the Lowell Service area were constructed in 1925, making the mains 85 years old and reaching the end of their service life. In addition, the 2007 Water Comprehensive Plan recommends improvements for upsizing existing mains in the north end of S 3rd Ave and S 3rd Ave between Main Street and Ravenna Street. Staff recommends replacing the existing pipe with new ductile iron pipe and upsizing key portions based on flow modeling results. The modeling for determining most efficient new pipe diameters will include meeting flow requirements for future maximum demand and residential fireflows. RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): Authorize the Mayor to sign a Professional Services Agreement with RothHill, LLC to provide engineering design services for Water Main Improvement Project"K"not to exceed $386,500.00. 17
