Fire prevention, if it is to eliminate serious injuries
and death from such fires, must educate owners and
operators of the need for safeguarding against a
condition where a fire may smolder and burn for hours,
which inturn heats up woodwork and other burnable
materials to a point where the interior of the building
becomes a seething mass of flame.
There are cues for such conditions. Enclosing
stairways, elevator shafts and providing adequate floor
separation will be of great value providing additional
time for building occupants to gain egress from a fire
situation. These provisions for life safety in
buildings should be done in any multi-storied building.
