• Ordinance No. /P17: : 9c An Ordinance of the City of Everett Amending Zoning Code Ordinance Nos. 1671-89, 1729-90, 1770-91 , 1793-91 and 1838-91 . WHEREAS, the City Council finds that City of Everett adopted Zoning Ordinance No. 1671-89 which became effective on January 13 , 1990; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that Ordinance 1671-89 has been amended several times since its adoption; and WHEREAS, The City Council finds that the Planning Commission recommended that an annual review of the Zoning Code occur to keep the ordinance up-to-date; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City received numerous suggestions for various amendments to the zoning code for the 1991 annual Zoning Code review; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the Planning Commission has conducted several public workshops and hearings on the proposed Zoning Code amendments and has recommended that the City Council approval of various proposed amendments; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the City Council has conducted a public hearing to consider the recommendations of the Planning Commission. WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the proposed amendments to the Zoning Code bear a substantial relation to the public welfare and are in the best long term interests of the Everett Community. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: SECTION 1: Section 4 of Ordinance No. 1671-89, as amended by Ordinances 1729-90, 1770-91, 1793-91 and 1838-91 is hereby repealed. SECTION 2: Ordinance No. 1671-89, as amended, is amended by the addition of the following: Zoning Code Definitions, General. Except where specifically defined in this Section or other sections of this Ordinance, all words used in this Ordinance shall have the meaning commonly or logically associated therewith. When not inconsistent with the context, words used in the present tense include the future, words in the singular include the plural, and words in the plural include the singular. The word "person" may be taken for persons, association, firm, partnership or corporation as well as the individual. The masculine includes the feminine. The word "occupied" includes premises designed or intended to be occupied; the word "used" includes designed or intended to be used. The word "shall" is always mandatory; the word "may" denotes a use of discretion in making a decision.
