Golf fees were the subject
of public review including a public forum at the July 12,2011 regular meeting of the Board of Park
Commissioners.Notice of the public forums included advertisements in The Daily Herald, notification on
the City's website and postings at Legion Memorial Golf Course and Walter E. Hall Golf Course, the Swim
Center,Recreation Office and the Forest Park Administration Building Offices.
The Board finalized its recommendation to staff at its July 12, 2011 meeting. There were a total of ten
attendees at the public forums. Five of those ten attendees were senior annual passholders at Walter E. Hall
Golf Course requesting the City either not increase the fee for their senior annual pass or the fee be increased
at a lesser amount than the proposal. It was their belief that the senior annual passholders bring additional
revenue to the courses by inviting outside golfers and taking advantage of other amenities such as the food
and beverage and golf car rental services and that the City should consider this when setting green fees.
Feedback from other attendees included support for the convenience frequent play cards and support for
reducing the senior age eligibility from 65 to 62.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council):
3
