TO BE PRESENTED TO THE EVERETT CITY COUNCIL WEDNESDAY AUGUST 17,2011: I am David W.John, MD of 8817 S.E.61st Street, Mercer Island. Last week I gave several pieces of powerful evidence that fluoridation does not reduce cavities. Today, I'm asking you to put an immediate moratorium on fluoridation, because by adding industrial toxic waste you are administering the drug fluoride to large numbers of people. You are doing this without medical education,without a license,without adjusting the dose to the individual, and without warning them about possible adverse effects. As a physician,when I prescribed a drug, I had to adjust the dose for the individual and warn them of possible side effects. Research has shown that fluoridation increases the risk of oral, bladder and lung cancers and elevates bone cancer in boys by up to 7 fold. Fluoridation also increases arthritis, arteriosclerosis,osteoporosis,skeletal fluorosis, bone brittleness and fractures and causes fluorosis of teeth in general (with more in Blacks, Hispanics and the poor). Plus, it lowers thyroid function, damages DNA repair enzymes,causes genetic damage, injures kidneys, and causes autoimmune diseases and some people are allergic to fluoride. As though all this were not enough, it also decreases male fertility. (Health and Nutrition Secrets that an av yob Russell L. Blaylock, MD, Health Press,2006, pgs.93-131;and Fluoride the Aging Factor,John Yiamouyiannis, PhD, Health Action Press, 1993) Fluoridation is done in spite of all these bad health effects due to claims it lowers tooth decay, but some studies show a small increase in decay, most show no difference, and a few show a small decrease. So,overall, it looks as though there is NO CHANGE in tooth decay rates and therefore no justification for fluoridation's many health risks! The council should stop fluoridation for a year for studies on its effectiveness and safety. I'm sure this review will convince you to stop fluoridation permanently as many other communities have done, such as Calgary,Canada six months ago, Fairbanks, Alaska in June, Philomath,Oregon earlier this month, and Spring Hill,Tennessee did just 2 days ago by unanimous vote of their City Council.
