ELSRETT <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 1785-91 <br /> AN ORDINANCE establishing regular salaries for Council members of <br /> the City of Everett, establishing a date for the salaries <br /> to take effect, and retaining salary levels in effect and <br /> to be in effect prior to the effective date of this <br /> ordinance. <br /> WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of Everett was ratified on June 25, 1968; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, Section 2.8 of the Everett City Charter established interim <br /> compensation for elective officers until such time as a regular salary <br /> ordinance is passed; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 477-77 established a regular salary for City Council <br /> members effective January 14, 1980; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 642-79 established a salary base for Council members <br /> which was subject to increase by the same amount as the annual average <br /> salary increase for all non-union employees of Snohomish County, the <br /> governmental entity; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is important to recognize the increasing complexity of good City <br /> government which creates additional time commitments and responsibility for <br /> Council members; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is appropriate to provide for an orderly progression of salary <br /> rates for Council members; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF EVERETT DOES ORDAIN: <br /> SECTION 1 : <br /> The salary of each Council member shall be increased in the same percentage <br /> as the annual increase from July to July in the All Urban Consumer Price <br /> Index for the Seattle Area published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of <br /> the U.S. Department of Labor, provided that said increase shall not exceed <br /> the percentage of annual average salary increase of all City of Everett <br /> non-union employees for the same period of time. <br />
