1 <br /> Section 3: Procedure <br /> A. The Mayor, a City Council member or any citizen or interested group may request <br /> the naming or renaming of a City building,public place,facility or natural feature <br /> or the renaming of a City street.Requests must be made in writing to the Office of <br /> the Mayor accompanied.by sufficient information to demonstrate that the <br /> proposed name is consistent with this policy. <br /> B. The Mayor or his/her designee shall review the proposal to determine if the <br /> request is consistent with this policy. If determined to be inconsistent with this <br /> policy,the Mayor shall forward the request to the City Council with a . <br /> recommendation to deny the proposal. In all cases,the City Council will have the <br /> prerogative,of rejecting the proposal,or forwarding it to the Historical <br /> Commission for further consideration. <br /> C. If the proposal is consistent with this policy,the Mayor shall forward the request <br /> • to the Historical Commission for review. The Mayor shall notify the City Council <br /> of the referral of the request to the Historical Commission. <br /> D. Suggestions for names may be solicited from the public. <br /> E. Except as provided in paragraph F,below,the Historical Commission shall <br /> provide notice required for Review Process V decisions as defined in EMC <br /> Chapter 15.24 before taking action on any naming or renaming of a City building, . <br /> street,public place,facility or natural feature. <br /> • <br /> F. The Historical Commission shall provide a 30-day public notice on any <br /> naming/renaming action prior to a Historical Commission meeting to provide an <br /> opportunity for public comment on the proposed action. <br /> G. Following a public hearing,the Historical Commission shall forward a <br /> recommendation for approval or denial,or recommend an alternative name to the <br /> City Council. The Historical Commission will also forward any supportive <br /> information to the City Council appropriate to justify the recommendation. <br /> H. The City Council,upon receipt of a recommendation from the Historical <br /> Commission, shall hold a public hearing prior to any final action. <br /> I. The City Council shall take action by resolution on the naming or renaming. <br /> J. The Mayor,upon approval of the naming or renaming action by the City Council, <br /> shall implement names or name changes of City buildings,streets,public places, <br /> facilities,and/or natural features.
