Supplementary Report:
As requested by client, ESNW was onsite to observe the earthwork activities. The following was observed:
Today contractor focused on completely backfilling all open trench line. In the shallower trenches where the sewer
pipe was approximately 2' to 2 1/2' below grade, contractor placed the recycled concrete material and used a hoe
pack to compact the material. Compaction tests indicated adequate compaction of at least 90% or greater at tested
locations. In the deeper trenches, contractor used the fill material excavated out of the sewer trench to backfill above
the recycled concrete lift. Contractor placed the material in 12" loose lifts and used a hoe pack to compact the
material. Compaction tests indicated adequate compaction of at least 90% or greater at tested locations. The
contractor removed rubble from the fill material prior to placing the fill. The contractor removed the rubble sized 2' by
2' or greater. In areas that were not the recycled concrete material at the top of the trench, the contractor cement
treated the material at an approximate 3% prior to placing the material and used a hoe pack to compact the material.
The contractor was also replacing the recycled concrete from where it was removed to dig the trench. The contractor
used a dozer to spread the material then used a large vibratory drum roller to compact the material.
ESNW will return as needed.
Wendy Jones
COPY TO: CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE
