Alcoves
Buildings 40-25; 40-26; 40-34; 40-35/36
Dear Mr. Astemborski:
The subject drinldng fountain dcoves were designed to be used by wheelchair-confused
personnel using the frontal approach rather than the angle approach as depicted in the
Washington Barrier Free Handbook, Section 511. The reason for the alcove was to limit
the projection of the drinldng fountain imo the aisleway. This, in our opinion, did not
negate using the frontal approach method.
The drinking fountain alcoves do meet the 1992 American Disabilities Act, Section 4.15
Figure 27, which shows a frontal, approach into an alcove. The figure also shows a
minimum width of 30 inches and a maxitnum depth of 24 inches.
The drinking fountain alcoves ,ire located as follows:
Building 40-25 - First Floor Grid SIN, Mezzanine N8, Mezzanine N-10 &
Second floor Grid N/4.5
Building 40-26 - Mezzanine R-2, Mezzanine R-5, Mezzanine R-8,
Mezz..ani:ne R-10
Building 40-34 - Mezzanine K-14, Mezzanine K-15
Building 40-35 - Mezzanine N-14
Building 40-36 - Mezzanine R-14
This information, along with a letter from you to The City of Everett stating Boeing
