EVERETT CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET
2
PROJECT TITLE: Business License and Tax
Portal Project Update
Briefing COUNCIL BILL#
Proposed Action Originating Department Finance
Consent Contact Person Susy Haugen
Action Phone Number X8612
First Reading FOR AGENDA OF 9/26/12
Second Reading
Third Reading
Public Hearing
Budget Advisory Initialed by:
Department Head
CAA -1 -
• Council President &Tire
Location Preceding Action Attachments Department(s)Approval
Amount Budgeted
Expenditure Required Account Number(s):
Budget Remaining
Additional Required
DETAILED SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Representatives from the City of Bellevue, City of Bellingham,City of Everett, City of Seattle, and City of
Tacoma have been working to identify a common solution that will meet the business community's requests
for an easier, more efficient way to apply for business licenses and file tax returns. These five cities receive
over 90 percent of all local B&O tax collections in Washington State.
The solution identified is an online business license and B&O tax payment portal that would provide a single
location for businesses to apply for city business licenses, file B&O tax returns, and pay taxes due for all
participating cities. In July of 2011, Council approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Seattle to
participate in a feasibility study regarding the viability of developing a joint city portal. This study has been
completed. Staff will provide the results of the study, project status, and proposed next steps.
RECOMMENDATION:
1
