City of Everett Human Needs Grant <br /> January 1 through December 31,2017 <br /> Snohomish County Music Project <br /> Music Therapy Initiative <br /> EXHIBIT A: Program Summary <br /> This music therapy program focuses on violence/delinquency prevention, using music <br /> education as a means rather than an end. While learning basic musical skills and material, <br /> board-certified music therapists help students to develop their ability to follow directions and <br /> self-regulate, as well as experience positive social interactions. <br /> Program Objective: To promote the positive social development of children and youth using <br /> music to inspire disconnected and at-risk children and youth to develop pro-social skills and <br /> attitudes, engage with learning, and develop self-esteem and resiliency skills. ., <br /> Program Components: (1) Students sign up for this program through Horizon Elementary; (2) <br /> music therapists work with the students to build their ability to follow directions, make <br /> decisions, self-regulate, and have positive social interactions at the same time as building their <br /> knowledge of rudimentary music material; (3) and, with each quarter lasting 11 weeks and <br /> culminating in a recital, students are given the opportunity to showcase their skills through <br /> individual and group performance. <br /> Target Population: The agency targets students in grades 2-5 at Horizon Elementary School. <br /> How and When are Services Provided: Six group lessons take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on <br /> Saturdays with a maximum of 6 students in each group. <br /> Service Providers: Two Board Certified Music Therapists will be responsible for planning and <br /> implementing music therapy programs for designated groups. Interns and practicum students <br /> will also be used as appropriate. <br /> Program Service Units: This funding will support 48 music therapy sessions serving 160 of the <br /> City of Everett's incarcerated youth during this grant cycle. <br /> 12 weeks x .75 hrs. = 9 hrs. per student x 40 students = 450 hrs. x 4 sessions = 1,440 units <br />
