December 5, 2000
Proprietor
Home Boys BBQ
2814 Hewitt Avenue
E,--rett, WA 98201
RE: New construction of exterior walls.
Upop a citizen complaint, we have noted that the building that houses the Home Boys B-
BQ establishment has newly constructed exterior walls under an existing canopy (West
side). The City of Everett Building Code (UBC) under Section 106.1 specifies that no
building may be altered or improved unless a permit for construction has been first
obtained from the Public Services Department. Upon inspection of said property, the
following discrepancies were noted:
• Distances to property lines. Per our records, it appears that the East edge of the
canopy is at the property line. Section 503.2.1 requires that exterior walls have a fire-
resistance rating as specified in Table 5-A. Based on a B Occupancy of Type III-N
Construction(assumed), a minimum four-hour fire-resistive wall with no openings
(doors, windows, etc.) is required.
• Roof Protection. A parapet is required for four-hour exterior walls. Section 709.4.1
• Floor Level at Doors. Section 1003.3.1.6 states that there shall be a landing on each s
side o7f every door. Said landings shall not be more than ''/z"lower than the threshold #
of the doorway. The landing at the main door was noted at over 4 inches(approx)
below the threshold. A conforming landing and ramp is required.
• Dead Balt a:Main Door. A sign stating "This door shall remain unlocked during
business hours"must be located at the main door. rection 1003.3.1.8
• Door Hardware. A leti,er-type door handle is required for the entry door(inside and
out). Section 1106.3
• Wiring. Electrical heaters must be hard wired into the buildings electrical system.
Extension cords are not permitted. NEC Section 400-8
f
D2-
