CITY OF EVERETT, WASHINGTON
' SPECIAL PROVISIONS
DIVISION 7
DRAINAGE STRUCTURES, STORM SEWERS, SANITARY SEWERS,
WATER MAINS AND CONDUITS
SECTION 7-05
MANHOLES,INLETS,AND CATCH BASINS
SECTION 7-05.3(1) OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS IS REPLACED WITH
THE FOLLOWING:
7-05.3(1) Adjusting Manholes and Catch Basins to Grade
In most work locations, planing depth is equal to overlay depth. Therefore, significant iron
adjustment is not anticipated, and adjustment of structures to grade shall occur only as needed
and/or required.
Manholes, catch basins, and other structures shall not be adjusted to grade until the pavement is
completed, at which time the center of each structure shall be carefully relocated from references
previously established by the Contractor. The pavement shall be cut in a restricted area and base
material be removed to permit removal of the cover. The structure shall then be brought to
proper grade utilizing the same methods of construction as for the structure itself. The existing
cast iron ring and cover on manholes, catch basins and inlets frame and grate shall first be
removed and thoroughly cleaned for reinstalling at the new elevation. A temporary cover must
be placed immediately after grinding.
The cast iron frame shall be placed on concrete blocks and wedged up to the desired grade with
plastic wedges. The asphalt concrete pavement shall be cut and removed to a neat circle, the
diameter of which shall be equal to outside diameter of the cast iron frame plus 2'. The roadway
surface materials and crushed rocks shall be removed so the structure casting can be adjusted to
the finished road grade elevation.
The edges of the asphalt concrete pavement and the outer edge of the castings shall be painted
with tack and 1/2 inch HMA PG 64-22 shall be placed and compacted in layers to a minimum of
91%of the maximum theoretical density of the HMA.
The completed patch shall match the existing paved surface for texture, density, and uniformity
of grade. The joint between the patch and the existing pavement shall then be carefully painted
with hot asphalt cement or asphalt emulsion and shall be immediately covered with dry paving
sand before the asphalt cement solidifies.
The inside throat of the structure shall be thoroughly mortared and plastered.
When adjustment is down, manholes, catch basins, inlets, and other structures shall be adjusted
to finished grade from references previously established by the Contractor prior to asphalting.
Once asphalted, pavement cut will not be allowed.
HOT MIX ASPHALT OVERLAY 2017 PAGE 1 OF 2 MARCH 2017
WORK ORDER# PW 3642
DIVISION 7
1
