ORDINANCE NO. 2918-06 <br />An ORDINANCE updating transit fares and transfer policy and <br />Repealing Resolution No's. 3975 (EMC 3.52.090), 5114 and 5337 <br />WHEREAS, the City of Everett, through Everett Transit has provided transit service since 1969; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Everett Transit has not changed base fares since August, 1995; and <br />WHEREAS, a base fare of fifty -cents without transfers is effectively the equivalent of a fare <br />increase from seventy-five cents to one -dollar with transfers; and <br />WHEREAS, a base cash fare decrease from seventy-five cents to fifty -cents reduces the monthly <br />cost for unlimited fixed route service from twenty-seven dollars to eighteen dollars with the <br />purchase of a monthly pass; and <br />WHEREAS, Everett Transit is the only agency in the Puget Sound region that does not have a <br />fare for demand response services; and <br />WHEREAS, federal law allows transit agencies to establish a fare for demand response service <br />that is no greater than two times the base fare for comparable fixed route service; and <br />WHEREAS, Everett Transit is part of the Regional Fare Agreement which includes Sound <br />Transit, Community Transit, King County Metro, Pierce Transit and Washington State Ferries; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Everett Transit desires to use effective marketing tools such as ride free tickets and <br />free ride service promotions to introduce potential customers to its services; <br />ORDINANCE UPDATING TRANSIT FARES <br />
