5. Major Concepts
The specific objectives derived from Everett's Comprehensive Plan and from
public comment during this project outline a consistent and compelling vision for
downtown. It is a vision that builds on Everett's history as an industrial mill town
and to create a more dynamic and multifaceted metropolitan center that will be
the focus for commercial, civic and cultural activities in Snohomish County. To
achieve this goal, downtown must add or enhance three key elements to its
spectrum of activities. It must:
Continue to create and construct regional facilities and attractions that attract
people from throughout the city and the region Central Waterfront
and make downtown Everett a regional Open Space Connections
destination.
Foster inviting neighborhoods for those who
want the convenience and excitement of
urban living and connect downtown to
strengthened neighborhoods
immediately to the north and
south.
• Attract additional retail services
and business activity to serve the
growing residential population and
increased concentration of
commercial activities.
As the diagrams below illustrates, the
core concepts of this plan are aimed
toward this three pronged strategy.
Government
Access & Parking
Campus
Strategies (transit,
gateway corridors)
,Historic character
*Water setting
-Solid surrounding
neighborhoods
• Working family 1
orientation /
-Easy access
Predictable
Development
Pattern
Streetscapes
& Amenities
Focus Retail
in Central Spine
90
INI,Ivliiil= METROPOLITAN
•
CENTER
-High intensity
•Variety
■Mufti -modal transportation
■ In -city livilg
• Waterfrortlriverfront
connections
Increased Support • Regional destinations
for Retail
Integrated & Stable
Surrounding Neighborhoods
(height & design standards)
Figure 28.
