Terri Jorgenson
From: Tony Lee
Sent: Monday, June 27, 2016 7:28 AM
To: Terri Jorgenson
Subject: FW: Carport permit application
Dear Ms. Nguyen,
We have received your permit application and request to either keep the garage structure attached to the house or to
process a demolition permit to remove the structure. A permit to keep the structure can't be issued at this time:
• The structure is classified as a garage by the residential code.
• The structure has never received a construction permit and approval (structures built without required permits
can't be grandfathered in even after several years have passed).
• The structure can't be approved as-built—the plan submitted is inadequate and does not meet plan submission
requirements.
• The structure does not meet the minimum provisions for structures as outlined in the Everett Building Code.
In order to keep the structure, the following would be required:
• Plans and construction details are required to be submitted along with a complete permit application that
demonstrates compliance with the construction codes and City Ordinances. Approvals from Planning and
Building would be required. The structure would then have to be heavily modified to meet minimum code.
You requested in your correspondence to either be granted a permit to keep the structure or a permit to demolish it. As
we can't issue a permit to keep the structure we will therefore process the permit to demolish it. We will process the
permit on July 8th.
Sincerely,
Tony Lee
Building Official
City of Everett
1
