The existing roof structure consists of steel bar joists
supporting a metal deck, insulation and roof membrane. The joists are spaced at approximately 5 ft. on
center and span approximately 45-0" between supports. Our analysis is based on the equipment
information you provided and field measurements.
Units RTU-1 and RTU-3:
• Existing units are Carrier 48TJD008 7.5 Ton units weighing approximately 1,080 lbs. each.
• Proposed units are York ZYG08 7.5 Ton units weighing 1,050 lbs. each.
• Units will be mounted in the same location as existing equipment. No curb adapter will be
installed.
Since the proposed units weigh less than the existing units, the roof structure is adequate by inspection
for these two units.
Unit RTU-2 and RTU-4:
• Existing units are Carrier 48TJD007 6 ton units weighing approximately 736 lbs.
• Proposed unit is a York ZF07 6.5 ton unit weighing approximately 1,055 lbs., with a curb adapter
that weighs an additional 255 lbs.
• Based on the field measurements the steel bar joists most closely match a Vulcraft 281<10 bar
joist. Joist capacity was based on the rating published in Vulcraft's catalog.
• The proposed unit will be mounted on a curb that distributes the unit load over 2 roof joists. The
units will be located approximately 9 ft. from the West edge of the roof and 16 ft. from the East
edge.
• A roof snow load of 25 PSF was used in our analysis.
The RTU-2 and RTU-4 unit loads resulted in an increase of approximately 5.6% in joist moment and
3.6% in joist shear. Based on our review of the roof, the existing joists are structurally acceptable to
support the proposed replacement units.
Civil, Structural and Survey
