RESOLUTION NO. a3/48
A RESOLUTION establishing the City of Everett Rideshare
Program designated as 'Everett on The M.O.V.E. ' .
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Everett finds
that an overwhelming majority of employees of the City of
Everett commute to and from work in single occupancy
vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the City Council further finds that the
proliferation of single occupancy vehicle commuting
contributes to air pollution, to traffic congestion, and
consumes valuable land in commercial and industrial areas;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish employee
policies and programs which encourage usage of public
transportation/multiple occupancy of private commuter
vehicles in order to serve as an example for other employers
and employees in this area;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF EVERETT:
1. The Mayor is authorized to establish policies and
programs encouraging ridership of City employees on City
buses and other publicly owned vehicles, including Community
Transit and Metro buses and vanpools, as well as privately-
owned ridesharing vehicles. Said policies and programs may
include use of incentive and disincentive options which have
proven to be effective elsewhere, such as promotional or
discounted transit fares and preferential parking for
carpools and vanpools for City employees.
2 . The Mayor is authorized to enter agreements with
other agencies promoting commuter ridership and to prepare
promotional literature and materials, utilizing Transit
Enterprise Funding.
,.
