RESOLUTION # c/ %a— A RESOLUTION Authorizing the transfer of trolley buses from the Transit Department to the Parks Department and the reimbursement of federal funding to UMPTA. WHEREAS, the City of Everett currently owns three trolley style buses that are being used on regular transit routes; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to have these trolleys used in non-transit routes to support special event activities; and WHEREAS, Federal Regulations require that these trolleys be used for transit purposes necessitating the repayment of the UMPTA subsidy; and WHEREAS, their exists opportunities to use the trolleys with community festivals such as Salty Sea Days, the Fourth of July, Art in the Park, Sausage Festival, Providence Festival of Trees; and WHEREAS, there are numerous City familiarization tours, historical tours, guest visitation tours that occur each year for which the trolleys would be ideally suited; and WHEREAS, there are numerous miscellaneous activities including dedication, public ceremonies, parades, and other events for which the trolleys could be used; and WHEREAS, these trolleys are mechanically better suited to be used in the above mentioned special event activities rather than on regular transit routes, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City of Everett City Council: 1. That the two trolleys units shall be removed from Transit Service and transferred to the Parks and Recreation Department for general government purposes, to better serve the community as outlined above. 2. That the General Fund reimburse the Transit Department, and UMPTA up tothe amount of $65,157.69 for each unit. 3. That the source of funding shall be unallocated general fund cash forward.
