RESOLUTION #57 '7( <br /> A RESOLUTION commiting Council <br /> Contingency funds to supplement Everett <br /> School District funding of Peer Helper <br /> Program <br /> WHEREAS, the children of today are considered at risk because <br /> they are victims of a variety of tragic social ills , and <br /> WHEREAS, in a time of limited resources , we need to be creative <br /> and effective in funding ways to address the needs of our youth, and <br /> WHEREAS, statistics show that peers recognize problem signs in <br /> their friends up to two years before parents or school staff see <br /> them, and <br /> WHEREAS, the Everett School District has in place a Peer Helpers <br /> program in the two high schools , the alternative school and the <br /> three middle schools , and <br /> WHEREAS the training budget for this program is $25 ,000, of <br /> which only $10,000 can be funded by the Everett School District ; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the Everett City Council shall commit $15,000 of <br /> Council Contingency Funds to supplement this vital program for its <br /> continuation in order that our at-risk youth may be served. <br /> 6 /,a I ' ✓1-x`'6' <br /> Councilmember introducing <br /> resolution <br /> PASSED and APPROVED this / ,.y4;lay of May, 1989. <br /> Council P esiden; <br />
