Box 538
Everett, WA 98206
Relationship to Property: Owner
Representative: Dennis Gregoire
Requested action: Shoreline Substantial Development Conditional
Use Permit
Project Coordinator/ Gerry Ervine
Everett Planning Department Phone: 259-8731
Location: West side of Jetty Island
Parcel Sizes 19 acres low salt marsh
6 acres high salt marsh
17 acres upland
67 acres new intertidal west side
of berm
109 Acres Total
Project: The project proposed by the Corps of
Engineers and the Port of Everett involves
placement of dredged material in a manner
that will be beneficial to the Port Gardner
ecosystem. Approximately 300,000 cubic yards
of hydraulically dredged sands from the
Snohomish River channel would be used to
construct a sand berm along the west side of
Jetty Island (Figure 2). Dredging and
placement on Jetty Island would occur during
the time period of mid—September through
15 March 1990. The berm would be up to 2,500
feet long and open to tidal flow at the north
end. Top elevation of the berm would be +15
feet MLLW with the toe elevation varying
between +6 feet MLLW at the south end to +1
foot MLLW at the north end. The majority of
the berm toe would be above +2 feet MLLW.
The berm top would be 50 feet wide in most
places, but would widen to 500 feet at the
south end where it would connect to Jetty
Island, to help compensate for erosion. The
berm side slope would be constructed at
approximately 1 V on 25 H on both sides.
The area inside the berm will be planted with
native beach grassland species currently on
the island; within the protected area between
the island and the berm, a salt marsh habitat
would be established. Potential benefits
from the project include:
0i0035
