RESOLUTION No. e)& , WHEREAS, the City of Everett through its Transit Division (Everett Transit) and Community Transit and SNO- TRAN have a common interest in quality public transportation to serve the residents of their respective jurisdictions; and WHEREAS, these three entities recognize a need to take the next steps toward the development of the high capacity transit system and particularly its funding; and, WHEREAS, the three jurisdictions are embarking on comprehensive planning efforts to establish the direction for public transportation in Everett, Community Transit and the county into the 21st century. WHEREAS, the three jurisdictions adopted a joint resolution, on June 1, 1988, to work together to: 1. Coordinate their planning efforts to achieve commonly agreed upon goals as well as to be mutually supportive of each jurisdiction' s own goals and program directions; 2 . Continue to work together to foster the development of a strong, multi-modal public transportation system that includes rail transit as one of its high capacity transit components; 3 . Work together to address the financing requirements of the emerging public transportation system including this county' s share of costs of the regional high capacity transit program; and 4 . Establish a working group, made up of representatives of the three jurisdictions, to actively work to carry out the activities promoted in that resolution and to report regularly to the three jurisdictions on the status of the coordinated effort. WHEREAS, since June 1, 1988, the coordinated planning effort has been initiated and named Snohomish County Transit Futures and the working group, called the Planning Coordinating Committee has been established; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVERETT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: That the Mayor is authorized to proceed with the joint planning process as defined in the Transit Futures Work Program, dated September 1, 1988, (attachment A) .
